Different courses have different language requirements. Beginner courses cater to English-speakers, others may need an intermediate or advanced understanding of Arabic. This all depends on the the course.
We encourage students to speak Arabic as much as possible so they can practice using the language (especially Arabic lessons). For Quran lessons, we assign teachers who can speak English to be with English-speaking students who cannot communicate in Arabic. As for students of other languages, they should inquire about the availability of a teacher that speaks their language.
You can choose whether you want group of 1:1 lessons.
If you have your own group, you can create a ‘closed-group’ where no other student will be added to your group.
If you don’t have your own group, you can register anyway and we will group you with students once we have enough number of students for a class.
You should know how to enter lessons (via a link), know how to submit assignments online and communicate through Telegram (an app similar Whatsapp).
Don’t worry, our admin team are ready to help you if you require assistance.
All communication outside of class between students and teachers happens through admin.
Please read our student policy for more details.
They are both hifdh programmes. Ahlan-bil-Quran is a set programme that consists of students taking one-to-one and group lessons weekly and requires students to finish memorising certain portions of the Quran within a certain time period.
Private Hifdh is more flexible, students can choose to follow the institute’s curriculum or express their preference.
Classical Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic overlap a lot. They both follow the same grammar structure, it can be said that classical Arabic tends to make more use of the grammatical constructs that exists, especially in the literary context. The other difference would be the type of vocabulary used. There are a lot of words and expressions not used in Modern Standard Arabic, and likewise vice versa, naturally due to the difference in time periods. However, studying one will give you a foundation in the other, so you can easily take modules without having to start from the beginning later.
It depends on what you your aim is. If you primarily want to just be able to understand the Quran and Islamic texts, begin with classical. If you want to be able to speak the language and use it practically, start with modern standard Arabic so you feel more motivated. You can still begin to understand some classical texts even if you study modern standard Arabic, but you would need the dictionary a lot, or read the explanation of the text in MSA!
All our courses and programmes have a specific aim so you should choose a programme based on your goals. Ahlan-bil-Arabiyyah is your choice if you want a comprehensive Modern Standard Arabic programme.
If you want to study a particular book, whether it’s because you’ve studied it before or you want to use that book because has been recommended to you by someone, you can choose our ‘Book-Selection’ programme.
